Gede - The sunken city

The ruins

Overgrown by age-old baobab trees, the old ruins of the medieval Swahili-settlement Gede rise up the jungle in the south of Malindi. Listen to the mystic silence of the city and the singing of tropical birds during your walk around the buildings.

The butterflies

Right next to the entrance of Gede you can visit the butterfly farm Kipepeo. Here they breed seldom butterflies which occur in the nearby Arabuko Sokoke Forest for export. Observe the different developmental stages of these colourful animals.

The natives

Enhance your trip and visit a traditional Kenyan village. Regularly, natives will show you their cultural dances.
